Matthew Konchel - Attorney

Matthew Konchel

Matthew Konchel endeavors to practice law in a fashion that befits the noble Philadelphia trial lawyer tradition. “Our approach to the law is like old-school, iron-man football, when each player started both offense and defense. We litigate in both the civil and criminal courts and strive to dominate both venues.”

Originally hailing from Michigan’s Detroit area, Matthew served as a combat paratrooper with the U.S. Army’s “All-American” 82nd Airborne Division and then worked in the corporate sector before attending Temple Law School. Graduating in 1998, he stayed on as Temple Law School’s Director of Development and Alumni Relations before ultimately being recruited to manage the law firm of Kats Jamison van der Veen and Associates.

In civil practice, Matthew has aggressively and successfully represented clients in personal injury claims, contract disputes, business litigation, landlord/tenant matters, custody disputes and immigration deportation proceedings. He has represented parties in both residential and commercial real estate and business transactions in Pennsylvania, and on the criminal side, Matthew has handled matters in Pennsylvania and New Jersey ranging from traffic violations and retail theft to drunk driving, drug crimes, assault, and juvenile and domestic violence offenses.

During his time at Temple Law School, Matthew made the Dean’s List and was selected to be a member of the Temple International and Comparative Law Journal, on which he later served as the Notes & Comments Editor. Matthew also competed on behalf of Temple Law School in both the Jessup International Moot Court Trial Team’s regional match-up in Washington D.C., and in the American Bar Association’s Negotiation Competition in Richmond, Virginia. Matthew captained the Temple University Graduate Rugby Team and led the Temple Law chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity through three-terms as Chapter President. He also served for a term as a law clerk to the Honorable Bruce I. Fox, Bankruptcy Judge (now Chief Bankruptcy Judge) for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Matthew is licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New Jersey and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. Matthew is proud to have been selected by his peers for the last four (4) consecutive years as one of Pennsylvania's Rising Star Super Lawyers, and has been publicly recognized as such in Philadelphia Magazine.

Matthew contributes his time and financial support to a variety of charities and charitable causes, including Purple Heart and Manna of Philadelphia. Matthew is a member of the Downingtown Chamber of Commerce and the Philadelphia Bar Association, and has served as a member of the Young Professional’s Network of the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and the Temple Law Alumni Association.
